“Watch out for its leaping attack! It will explode after it's defeated!”
— Navi, Ocarina of Time

Its green, oblong body is reminiscent of a particularly fat serpent. While a baby dodongo does not actively hunt, if its home is threatened it will recklessly attack the intruder at any expense. Even if the baby fails it will explode its own body to weaken the threat, using the explosive substance that would have fueled their fire breath later in life. This strategy seems to be a desperate effort to protect any nearby baby dodongos at the cost of itself.
At this stage of its life, a dodongo typically live in sizable groups of its own kind and dares not venture on its own. They favor in warm areas—ideally volcanic caves—even more than their elders. Here they slumber underground to absorb energy from the thermal heat found in such terrain. Only a minority of these babies will grow to their next life stage—a bipedal lesser dodongo—and even fewer will live beyond that stage.
     Environment: Caves, Volcanic
