“ | “These stubborn lizards that resemble small dragons without wings have notoriously tough skin. Few attacks can hurt them, and Link's best strategy is to trick them into eating a bomb or three.” |

A dragon with two or four legs, scales as impenetrable as armor, and ferociously fiery breath. Dodongos are among the most legendary monsters in Hyrule for good reason. Even skilled warriors have difficulty taking down these aggressive tyrants. Their infamous weakness to bombs is, according to some, the reason bombs themselves have become such a widely used weapon across Hyrule.
Adult dodongos like this one usually strike out on their own, but are occasionally found in mating pairs. While they are typically born in or near volcanoes, any of this age can be found anywhere from ruins to caves to even frosty mountains. Wherever it is found, the dodongo is sure to be a scourge. Its great flaming breaths and powerful jaws can overturn an entire caravan—or crunch a hole in a castle wall. The only respite travelers have against this monster is that if its initial ambush can be avoided, it is fairly easy to outrun.
Strangely, most dodongos have a habit of exploding upon death. This might be a byproduct of the same organ which enables its fiery breath. Others believe this explosive tendency was what gave rise to conventional bombs in the first place.
