A creature you touch is covered with a colorful barrier of protective energy. Choose one damage type when you cast this spell: cold, fire, lightning, or necrotic. The target gains 5 temporary heart points when you cast this spell. If the target is hit with a melee attack while this spell persists, the attacking creature takes 1d8 damage of the chosen damage type.
The temporary heart points granted by this spell are lost when the spell ends. If no temporary heart points remain, the spell ends abruptly.
Upcast. You can upcast this spell by expending extra magic points when you cast it. For each extra point, the target gains 5 more temporary heart points and the damage increases by 1d8.
