Wondrous item, rarity varies minor

This magic lock is paired with a small key—usually called a "boss key"—which can only open this lock. Without the key, a creature proficient with thieves' tools can use its action to pick this lock with a successful Dexterity ability check. The knock spell can open this lock with a successful ability check using the caster's ability score. The DC for either check depends on this item's rarity: DC 20 for uncommon, 25 for rare, and 30 for very rare.
If a creature fails the ability check to open this lock, any additional attempt fails until that creature finishes a long rest. Once any creature opens this lock (other than whoever placed the lock), it is permanently destroyed.
