Silver monsters—or "dark monsters"—are particularly powerful versions of normal creatures, blessed with dark magic. A silver monster is most easily distinguished from its kin by its coloration, which usually incorporates violet or black marks across its body. Portions of the body which aren't violet or black are usually of the namesake silver hue. Most silver monsters have eerie red eyes that dimly glow. Such a creature usually only comes into being when it is directly transformed through a powerful and evil force, such as Ganon's magic or the wish of a dark deity.
Other beings can sense a disturbing aura from silver monsters, which alone easily instills fear. These creatures are resilient against many forms of attack both conventional and magical, and tend to be much more capable in the violence of combat compares to others of their race. Monstrous humanoids usually uphold silver monsters as demigods, someone to be both awed and envied.
The exact process of transforming a monster into a silver one is unknown, but it believed to be wholly unnatural. When a silver monster is slain in combat, its body almost always erupts into gemstones—items which are usually used in powerful spells, perhaps even including the spell which caused this transformation.
According to legend, if a silver monster is struck by lightning, it might miraculously transform into an even more powerful golden monster.

Creature modification

The statblock for a silver monster can be created from seemingly any base creature, though it seems to happen most often with evil humanoids. For such a creature, use the following changes as a guideline.

Ability scores. The monster's ability scores all increase by 2, to a maximum of 30. If after this increase any score other than Intelligence is not at least 10, it becomes 10.

Resistances. A silver monster gains resistance to "damage from nonmagical weapons that aren't silver."

Multiattack. The creature gains a multiattack if it doesn't already have one. A silver monster's multiattack can make at least two or three attacks.

Saves. The monster usually gains proficiency in one additional saving throw, usually Constitution or Wisdom.

Other details. A silver monster typically gains at least a few more Heart Containers, usually enough to increase its defensive challenge rating two or more increments. The monster's offensive capabilities may increase an appropriate way, possibly in lieu of multiattack. Creatures that wield weapons will usually gain magical weapons.

Extra Traits

The monster may gain some of the following traits. If the creature already has Legendary Resistance, it can use the trait an extra time per day. If the creature already has the Brute trait or a similar one, then Powerful Attacks replaces it.

Aura of Terror. Any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of the silver monster must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw, or become frightened of it for 1 minute. If a creature has succeeded on this saving throw once within the past 8 hours, it automatically succeeds.

Legendary Resistance (1/Day). If the silver monster fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Monstrous Demigod. The silver monster has advantage on Charisma checks to interact socially with other members of its race. (Only gained if the race is predominantly evil and is intelligent enough to make routine Charisma checks.)
