“Anthropomorthic lizards similar to lizalfos, but with wings that allow them to survey the battlefield before swooping down on their targets. Aeralfos most often carry swords and shields, making for a challenging fight.”

Flyby. While it is flying, the aeralfos's movement doesn't provoke reactions.

Actions

Broadsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage. If the aeralfos flew at least 20 feet straight towards the target immediately before this attack, a hit deals an extra 7 (2d6) damage.

Claws. Melee Unarmed Strikes: +3 to hit, two attacks.
Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) slashing damage per attack.

Reactions

Deflect. When it would be hit by a ranged attack, aeralfos (creature) adds 2 to its AC, potentially turning the hit into a miss.

Boss Mode

While the aeralfos has a Challenge rating higher than any other monster in combat, its heart points are doubled, and it has advantage on initiative checks. It can also take 3 boss reactions each round, replacing its normal 1 reaction per round. The boss aeralfos can use a boss reaction to Escape, Maneuver, Search, use any of its normal reactions, or do any of the following:

Boss Resistance (3/Day). When the aeralfos would fail a saving throw, it can choose to lose 10 heart points and succeed on the save instead.

Cleave (Costs 2 Reactions). Immediately after the aeralfos hits a creature with a melee attack, it can move a distance up to half its speed and make another melee attack against a different target.

Wing Storm. When a Medium or smaller creature ends its turn within 10 feet of the aeralfos, the aeralfos can force it to succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or be hurled 10 feet away and land prone.

An aeralfos is shorter, thinner, and more fragile than most other lizal, but it is born bat-like wings enabling flight. Its diving sword attacks are lethal, even more so when a land-bound target has no way to retaliate.
Inferior Isolationists. Despite the immense advantage of flight, most aeralfos tend to be treated as lessers among their kind due to their smaller size and relatively meager strength. Many, but not all, aeralfos abandon the tribes which birthed them to seek isolation among small groups of aeralfos. They are most abundantly found isolated the sky, on sky islands, on mountains, or other locations inaccessible to terrestrial creatures.
     Environment: Hills, Ruins, Sky
