Wondrous item (mask), rare major

This mask resembles the visage of a humanoid that has passed away. It is said one can only be created with the passing of an individual who has sorrows left in this world. When their soul is healed by certain mysterious means, they leave behind a transformation mask.
You can don this mask as an action. Doing so bends and morphs you into the individual who passed away, so much so that those who knew this person may believe you to be them. Some minor details of your normal form, such as scars or clothing, are kept even in this new form. Notably, this can change your race if the mask's race differs from your own. You can remove the mask anytime as an action, which returns you to normal. The form you take with the mask will always be identical no matter how many times you don it. If you don a second transformation mask while already wearing one, its effects replace those of the prior mask.
If the mask's race or subrace differs from your own, some of your racial traits change while you are transformed. Your size, base walking speed, and diet change to that of the new race. While transformed you cannot benefit from your race's normal traits if they depend on your form, such as a zora's ability to breathe water or a rito's flight, as arbitrated by your DM. For as long as you transformed you also gain all the racial traits of the mask's race except for ability score changes. Any race-based choices are decided when someone first dons the mask (by the DM, though they can defer these choices to you) and will be the same for you or anyone else who later dons the mask.
If the mask's race is different from your own, access to this mask lets you can gain feats which require the mask's race as a prerequisite. Any feats or other effects which benefit the mask's race only affect you while you are transformed.
The DM decides the individual, race, and subrace of the mask; or rolls for a random race.
“The masks, which hold the spirits of the dead, cause the wearer to transform into a shape resembling the departed. Link uses the masks to undergo transformations, gaining powers not native to his human form.”
