Dive Attack. If the aeralfos is flying and dives at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a melee weapon attack, the attack deals an extra 9 (2d8) damage to the target.

Flyby. While it is flying, the aeralfos's movement doesn't provoke reactions.


Actions

Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage, or 15 (1d6 + 2d8 + 3) piercing damage if made as a dive attack.


Reactions

Deflect. The aeralfos adds 2 to its AC against one ranged attack that would hit it. To do so, the aeralfos must see the attacker and be wielding a shield.

     An aeralfos is shorter, thinner, and more fragile than most other lizal, but it is born bat-like wings enabling flight. Its diving sword attacks are lethal, even more so when a land-bound target has no way to retaliate.
     Inferior Isolationists. Despite the immense advantage of flight, most aeralfos tend to be treated as lessers among their kind due to their smaller size and relatively meager strength. Many, but not all, aeralfos abandon the tribes which birthed them to seek isolation among small groups of aeralfos. They are most abundantly found isolated the sky, on sky islands, on mountains, or other locations inaccessible to terrestrial creatures.

Turnabout Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage. A creature must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or it deals half damage to the aeralfos until the start of the aeralfos' next turn.

Legendary Actions

The aeralfos can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The aeralfos regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Shift. The aeralfos flies up to 20 feet, or rises from being prone.

Wing Storm. A Medium creature adjacent to the aeralfos must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be flung 10 feet directly away and land prone.

Swift Strike. (Costs 2 Actions) The aeralfos makes one attack.

     This stat block represents an aeralfos better suited to be fought in isolation as a relatively climactic encounter, such as a boss or mini-boss. Accustomed to fighting alone, its defensive tactics help it outlast almost any foes.
