Tektites are spider-like quadruped beasts wrapped in a lightweight but sturdy exoskeleton. Renowned for their mobility, these monsters leap huge distances as their primary form of locomotion, as well as attack and defense. They can climb mountains with ease, and some can even leap across the surface of water.
Simple Carnivores. Despite their otherworldly appearance, tektites are beasts that usually act on basic instincts. Each tektite has a simple face consisting of one monstrous eye and a pair of small fangs. Carnivores by nature, a tektite typically subdues prey by recklessly leaping atop it with the intend of breaking bones or otherwise incapacitating the creature. Once felled, the tektite will gentle nibble the prey until filled—sometimes even while the hapless victim yet lives. Tektites will recklessly attack almost any creature that gets too close, and will often work together to attempt to take down prey. Only when they are dwarfed in size do tektites hesitate.
Versatile Habitation. Tektites travel far and wide to many different biomes, and their powerful legs can handle any terrain. Lakes, swamps, mountains, deserts, caverns, ruins, and more are home to these hunters.
Life Cycle. There are few obvious differences between male and female tektites, but they reproduce sexually. As many as a hundred eggs are laid at once, and usually are only placed in a region that is difficult to reach even for tektites. A tektite is completely autonomous when born, with no parental dependence, and can reach maturity in only a few months.

Character details

Type. Your creature type is beast. You are unaffected by any game effect which only affects humanoids.
Alignment. Most tektites are unintelligent and unaligned.
Age. A tektite reaches adulthood in at most 1 year. Rarely does one live beyond the age of 10.
Diet. Tektites are omnivorous, but are are particularly fond of mammalian meat. As a Small beast, each day you require at least 1 pound of food and 1 gallon of water.

Character traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2. Your Intelligence score decreases by 4, to a minimum of 1.
Armless. You have no hands nor any limb which is nearly as dexterous, and thus cannot wield any weapon, shield, or item unless it is specifically designed for your body style. You can still supply somatic components of spells, but must substitute any hand gestures with body motions.
Size. Your size is Small.
Speed. You have a base walking speed of 30 feet and a climb speed of 30 feet.
Natural Acrobat. You are proficient in the Acrobatics skill.
Exoskeleton. Your shell-like exoskeleton protects you from conventional attacks. Your Armor Class is never lower than 12 + your Dexterity modifier.
Erratic Movement. While your movement isn't reduced, you cannot be targeted with attacks made as reactions.
Standing Leap. You can jump a length or height of up to 30 feet, with or without a running start. These jumps can avoid most forms of difficult terrain.

Languages. Tektites lack the biological features to speak, and almost none can understand any language. A tektite player-character is a special exception who can understand spoken Hylian, but cannot read, write, or speak it.

Subraces. Tektites come in two subraces. Choose one from coastal or upland.

Coastal Tektite

Toughness. Your heart point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.
Water Walker. You can walk, jump, or slide over the surface of water as easily as you can move over land.
Predation. You have advantage on any ability check to hunt or find food on a coastline, or on the surface of naturally-occurring water. Your slam attack always deals maximum damage to any beast with a Challenge of 1/4 or lower.

These tektites are more likely to be found near ponds, coastlines, and other areas of shallow water and most likely have a sapphire-colored carapace. Their peculiar ability to glide along the surface of water gives them an edge in these biomes, where they often hunt fish as much as they hunt mammals.

Upland Tektite

Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice from Strength, Constitution, and Wisdom increases by 1.
Quick. Your base walking speed and climb speed both increase to 40 feet.  Naturalist. You need not make saving throws to endure extreme cold, extreme heat, or high altitudes.
Predation. You have advantage on any ability check to hunt or find food in hilly or mountains terrain, or in a desert. Your slam attack always deals maximum damage to any beast with a Challenge of 1/4 or lower.

These tektites are native to rough terrain like mountains, deserts, and sometimes even active volcanoes. The harsh terrain in these locations often gives them ample practice for acrobatic leaps. Such tektites are most often have a ruby-or-amber-colored carapace.
