Wielding a wooden shield increases your AC by 2. This benefit does not combine with the benefit of any other shield.
This shield of basic design is widely use for its ease of crafting, especially among kokiri and koroks who favor woodworking over metallurgy. Though an iron shield is often more effective and durable, experienced adventurers may still prefer a wooden shield for its resilience against rust monsters and some electric attacks.
Flammable. If you take damage from being ignited while wielding this shield, it is irrevocably destroyed. You can prevent this by using your action to end the ignited condition.
Proficiency. If you are not proficient with a shield while wielding one, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can't cast spells.
