On a failed save, the target takes 1d12 lightning damage if it is not adjacent to a creature. If the target is adjacent to a creature on a failed save, the target takes 1d6 lightning damage and at least one creature adjacent to the target (your choice) must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 1d6 lighting damage.
This spell's damage dice increase by one when you reach 5th level (2d12 or 2d6), 11th level (3d12 or 3d6), and 17th level (4d12 or 4d6).
