You can use your action to set this trap, forming a saw-toothed steel ring that snaps shut when a creature steps onto the pressure plate in the center. A creature which enters the same space as the plate must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 1d6 piercing damage and stop moving this turn. While trapped, the creature's walking speed is halved.
An intelligent creature with hands can use its action to pry open the trap, either for itself or an adjacent trapped creature. On a DC 13 Strength check, the trapped creature is freed on a success, and on a failed check the trapped creature takes 1 piercing damage.
If you are proficient in the Survival skill or with tinker's tools, you add your proficiency bonus to the both DCs.
A bear trap is typically chained to a post or other fixed object, to limit the movement of a trapped creature even further.
