“ | “A breed of scorpion that lives in the desert. Instead of poison, the tip of its tail shoots fireballs. It is slow, but its carapace is thick; nothing gets through it. Its only weakness is its one open eye. A well-placed attack there is the key to defeating it.” |
— Encyclopedia |
A heavily-armored scorpion the size of a dog, the aru lowder—or aruroda—stands poised on desert hills and volcanic cliffs, overseeing its domain with a single all-seeing eye. In lieu of poison, its tail slings out bolts of fire at all who come into its vision. Any prey unfortunate enough to be roasted will be consumed at the monster's leisure. Those skilled enough to weave through its bolts to get up close will only find its steel-like carapace is almost invincible to conventional attacks.
Aru lowders appear to be related to the beetle-like lowders with whom they often live. Some researchers speculate the two creatures might even be dimorphic examples of the same species.
