CreaturesMonstrositiesOcto

This page or section is incomplete, and will eventually be expanded with more information.

Octos or octoroks are highly adaptable omnivorous amphibians known for their resemblance to octopuses and squids. This diverse family of creatures come in almost any size and seemingly any color, but universally feature sunken glowing eyes, a tubular rock-spitting snout, and four to eight tentacle-like legs. These tentacles are surprisingly adept at locomotion on land, in freshwater, or in saltwater. Though octos are generally considered unintelligent beasts, some exhibit remarkable skill and tactics.
Spat Projectiles. These monsters famously spit rocks from their mouth as a primary form of attack, and most are capable of aiming as well as any skilled marksman. Some varieties of octo only spit rocks or dirt found in their natural habitat, while others are able to form organic pellets from undigested portions of their males. A rare few are even able to spit other kinds of projectiles, such as ink blobs or even fiery explosives.
Ambush Tactics. As octos come in many forms and habitats, their motivation to attack and tactics involved vary widely. In nearly all cases, an octo will prefer to remain a safe distance and shoot rock projectiles, as this gives it a range advantage over most natural predators and prey. If an octo vastly outsizes its foe, it may forgo projectile attacks to instead use its immense bulk to slam or constrict the prey, saving ammunition.
Plentiful Population. Octos are possibly the most common type of bestial monster in Hyrule. At least one type of octo can found in any type of wilderness—some even swim in molten rock—but generally they are most abundant near coastlines where their amphibious nature is most useful.

Player-character details

Octos use tentacles instead of hands or arms. A minority of them, including all player-character octos, can use these limbs as nimbly and deftly as a humanoid use their hands. As an octo, you can wield weapons and provide the somatic components of spells in effectively the same way a humanoid could.

Type. Your creature type is monstrosity. You are unaffected by game effects which only affect humanoids.
Alignment. Most octos are not intelligent enough to have alignment, and thus are unaligned. Those with intelligence are usually neutral or neutral evil.
Age. Larger octos may age slowly, but a Small or Medium octo will reach adulthood in less than a year and can live for up to 20 years.
Diet. Octos are omnivorous. Many avoid classic predation to focus on eating plants, consuming small prey, or filter feeding. As a Small beast, each day you must consume one pound of food to avoid starvation. Due to your amphibious nature, you must spend at least an hour each day submerged in water to avoid exhaustion from thirst.

Player-character traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Size. Your size is either Small or Medium, as you decide.
Speed. Your base walking speed and your swim speed are both 30 feet.
Amphibious. You can breathe both air and water.
Spit Rock. You can make a ranged weapon attack by spitting a rock from your tubular mouth. You add your Dexterity modifier and proficiency bonus to this attack roll. On a hit, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d8 + your Dexterity modifier (or your Constitution modifier if it is higher). This attack has a range increment of 30/90 ft.
Ambusher. You have advantage on any attack roll against a creature you have surprised.
Predation. You have advantage on any ability check to hunt or find food in freshwater, saltwater, or coastline terrain. Your spit rock attack always deals maximum damage to any beast with a Challenge of 1/4 or lower.  Languages. Most octos speak no languages. A minority, including all octo player-characters, understand Hylian but cannot read or write.
Octo Adaption. Octos adapt to different lifestyles and biomes quite rapidly as they age. Choose and gain one racial feat exclusive to octos.
