An iron shield may incorporate wood or leather for ease of use, but its protective face is comprised of forged metal. This design is widely use for its effectiveness and durability. Hylian soldiers and warriors are rarely found without one. Adventurers occasionally forgo this shield to instead wield a wooden shield or deflecting shield, as these shields may prove more useful against some monsters.
Wielding an iron shield increases your AC by 2, but this benefit does not combine with the benefit of any other shield.
Proficiency. If you are not proficient with a shield while wielding one, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can't cast spells.
