While wielding a deflecting shield, your AC increases by 3 against ranged attacks. Your AC is not increased against melee attacks or for any other purpose. You can only benefit from one shield at a time.
A deflecting shield has an abnormal design. It provides exceptional protection against ranged attacks, but is useless in melee combat. While most warriors favor a different type of shield, fighters who fight from afar with archery or magical beams may prefer this shield.
Proficiency. If you are not proficient with a shield while wielding one, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can't cast spells.
Armor Class. +3 (ranged attacks only)
Cost. 200 rupees
Weight. 3 lb.
