A grappling hook is typically affixed to the end of a rope (not includes). You can throw the grappling hook at an objecr or creature with a ranged weapon attack roll using Dexterity with (20/60) range, which on a hit affixes the hook if there is a protrusion like a battlement, window ledge, or tree limb for it to latch onto. If the rope has been affixed, this leaves a very easy rope to climb, swing from, or walk across (as a tightrope). If holding the rope while the hook is latched, you can use your interaction to remove the hook from a latched object or creature.
If a grappling hook hits a creature which it can't latch onto, the target takes 1d4 bludgeoning damage.
