False Appearance. While the baba remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary plant.

Rooted. The baba is planted in the ground. Its base walking speed cannot increase above 0 feet. It has advantage on all saving throws and ability checks to remain in its position. If the baba is forced from its position but not reduced to 0 heart points, it dies at the end of its next turn.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) poison damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 10). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the baba cannot bite another target.

Reactions

Lunge. If a creature moves within reach of the baba's bite attack, it makes a bite attack against that creature.

“This violent plant is widespread in wooded areas. It will attempt to bite anything that approaches it.”
Fi

An animated flower-like plant with simple intelligence, the deku baba is common in forested areas far from civilization. Because it is a mostly mundane plant, the baba is rooted to the ground, and cannot willingly separate from where it grows. It normally exists as what appears to be a mere weed, but when it detects potential prey with its tremorsense, it lunges out like a snake, snapping its jaw-like petals to capture food. The baba normally feasts on insects and small animals, but has been known to attempt larger prey when food has been scarce or it is influenced by evil magic.
Boko Baba. A more colorful variant known as a "boko baba" is known to grow on beaches or small isles, but can be represented with these statistics.

Weak Point. Any target strike against the baba's stem that deals piercing or slashing damage forces the baba to immediately Uproot (no action required). Any effect which moves the baba from its position also forces it to Uproot.

Actions

Uproot. The baba detaches itself from the ground gains a walking speed of 30 feet and a swim speed of 30 feet. Another action can be used to re-attach itself from the point where it was uprooted. While detached, the baba takes 1d12 necrotic damage at the end of each of its turns.

Reactions

Lunge. If a creature moves within reach of the baba's bite attack, it makes a bite attack against that creature.

“These hostile plant monsters grow in various places throughout Hyrule, devouring nearby prey with their enormous mouths. They resemble Deku Babas, but their heads will jump around, biting at enemies even after their stems are cut.”
Encyclopedia

A deku baba with a most peculiar adaptation, the baba serpent can momentarily separate its head from its planted base to slither about like a snake, snapping its jaws wildly. Until it separates, it is practically indistinguishable from a regular deku baba.
Hidden Among Friends. Many intelligent creatures recognize and predict the immobility of normal deku babas, then drop their guard against such foes. A baba serpent often lives among normal deku babas, routinely thrives in the same habitats, and is able to blend in among them. It is known to take advantage of this camouflage to ambush prey that doesn't expect its sudden mobility. This is a symbiotic relationship: the baba serpent gains a more effective means of attack, and the deku babas are protected from wise predators they could otherwise could not pursue or evade.

“A voracious plant monster. They spit fire from a giant mouth full of fangs and will swallow anything that gets within range, including bombs.”
Encyclopedia

This rare variety of the more common deku baba is adapted to volcanic soil. The fire baba is renowned for being able to spit flames from its circular fanged maw. Like other babas, killing other creatures nearby helps to enrich the soil used by itself or others of its kind.
Fire babas are most likely to be found in areas where fire has occurred naturally, such as near an active volcano, or in the ashes of a forest fire.
